PNG Minister For Finance Gives $50k For Tailevu Day

Papua New Guinea’s Minister for Finance and Rural Development James Marape yesterday gave $50,000 to open the Tailevu Day at Syria Park, Nausori.

Roko Tui Tailevu Iliesa Delasau confirmed this yesterday and said Mr Marape was part of the group from PNG invited to carry out the opening.

The group, he said, had links to the Tailevu province.

He said all Tailevu men and women registered in the Vola Ni Kawa Bula (VKB) and from the age of 18 to 55, were required to give $50 each.

Mr Delasau said money collected in the two-day festival would be used as follows

20 per cent – Operation and Investment ($10),

40 per cent – Education/Sustainable Livelihood Training ($20)

and 40 per cent Investment ($20).

He said the committee also organised competitions on handicrafts, traditional meke, traditional costumes, traditional hair styles, traditional food and oratory contests.
