The Fiji Football Association is hoping to finalise international friendly matches for the Vodafone national team against Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and India by the end of the month.

This was confirmed by Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf.

“Discussions are underway with South East Asian football teams and we want to confirm the matches so that early next month we can start preparing,” he said.

All these teams are well ahead of Fiji in terms of the FIFA world rankings.

The latest FIFA rankings saw the Fijian team dropped three spots to be at 178. The Indian national side are at 105, Thailand at 132, Myanmar 150 and Singapore at 170.

“FIFA international friendly window is in March so we want to book our national team to play international matches during this time and a possible home game against India. “We are discussing with India and we hope to bring them across to Fiji for the international friendly in March.”

Meanwhile, Fiji FA is ensuring that the Vodafone Under-16 and U19 teams are prepared well for next year’s Oceania World Cup qualifiers.

“We have two major international assignments next year with the world cup qualifiers for our U16 and U19 teams. The U17 and U20 world cups in 2019 and we are confident that we will do well as we take each tournament at a time,” Yusuf added.
