A fresh appeal has been made to the Native Lands Commission challenging the installation of the Tui Nadi incumbent Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci.

Claimant Ratu Kaliova Dawai made the appeal to the NLC during their visit to Narewa Village yesterday to reaffirm Ratu Vuniyani’s installation in April this year.

The installation of RatuVuniyani was supported by the NLC.

During the meeting with the NLC in the village, Ratu Vuniyani said he was certain that the review of the rightful holder of the title would be in his favour.

“The challenge is always a healthy thing to show whether their (NLC) decision is right or wrong and this is something that we are born into, and I knew all along it would be in my favour,” Ratu Vuniyani said.

He said he would continue to carry out his responsibilities as Tui Nadi.

He made a call to the villagers to support his leadership for the benefit of the village.

“The head deserves to be respected in order to bring unity amongst the people,” Ratu Vuniyani said.

“Having this appeal will again exhaust our resources and money if they continue to do so, the vanua will be divided.”

Ratu Kaliova said his motives were not about taking the title but more towards showing the vanua who the rightful Tui Nadi was.

“This is just the beginning, the game is not over yet, we just want to reveal who is the rightful TuiNadi and the Tutu Vanua is still with the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, Turaga ni Yavusa o Sila, Timoci Dawai said they had appealed to the NLC and that the vanua would stand with them.

“The vanua still stands with Ratu Kaliova since he was installed by the Vanua, we are aware of the hierarchy of the chiefly status,” he said. “He will fight for his place as the rightful holder and we just want to correct as to who is the rightful heir.”

The NLC would make a ruling in 90 days after Ratu Kaliova’s appeal.
