Naitasiri chiefs want the province to revive rugby at all levels.

The plea was made during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting on Thursday in Nausori.

Senior Assistant Roko Tui Naitasiri Laitia Vai said the chiefs wanted to see rugby glories of past years back in the province by next season.

“The chiefs want rugby revived at all levels and for the Naitasiri teams to bring back rugby glories the province enjoyed,” he said.

“Chiefs have agreed that all the people of Naitasiri registered in the Vola Ni Kawa Bula (VKB) to contribute $2 each towards the revival of rugby.”

Waima district chief and Bose Vanua member, Ratu Timoci Rokobukete, said they wanted to see their rugby players earn contracts with overseas clubs.

“Rugby in the province needs the support of chiefs because this will be a big boost to players,” Ratu Timoci said.

“With our support, we should see rugby in the province grow to another level from the 2018 rugby season.”

Rugby players from the three villages in the Waima district – Naqara, Vuisiga and Nakorovatu,  play in the Vunidawa competition and many were named in the Naitasiri team last season.
