Team Fiji weightlifter, Eileen Cikamatana broke her Commonwealth and Oceania Championships record at the Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu yesterday.

She lifted 105kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 248kg to walk away with three gold medals.

Her previous record stood at 243kg, which was set in Australia during the Commonwealth and Oceania Championships in September.

“I feel like I am on top of the world and I am really excited with what I have just done here,” Cikamatana said.

“This is just the beginning compared to what I’m working towards for the Commonwealth Games next year.”

Oceania Weightlifting Federation general secretary Paul Coffa described to Cikamatana as a world class athlete.

“She’s world class, she is the best junior and the second best weightlifter in the world in the 90kg category,” Coffa said.
