Weightlifting Couples: Wins For Our Children

Team Fiji weightlifting medal winning couples Manueli Tulo and Maria Liku along with Tevita Tawai and Arieta Mudunavoce dedicated their medal wins to their children.

“For us as married couples, the wins foremost are for our children and Fiji,”Tulo said,

“We have been away for quite some time and we are really missing them.”

He said they came in as a family team and all strongly believed in working together, encouraging each other during training especially in trying times.

Tulo won three gold medals in the 53kilogramme weight category, Liku won two bronze medals in the 69kg, Tawai won three bronze medals in the 73kg and Arieta Mudunamoce won two bronze medals in the 53kg.

“This is a great achievement for Weightlifting Fiji, the whole nation of Fiji and of course for our families back in Baba, Levuka, Ovalau who just celebrated our Korovou Day on Monday.”

He said it just all came in time, putting their tough moments together as they progressed through the competition.

“When we came here each of us had our goals and just focusing in building each other up and doing our very best for ourselves, for our families and for the whole nation of Fiji.”

Tulo and Liku have two children Tevita 4, and Nicolette 1 while Tawai and Mudunavoce have a daughter, Jiutatia aged 2.
