Youths attending the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma Annual Youth Camp took advantage of the free health screening provided by Ministry of Health and Medical personnel’s at Subrail Park in Labasa, yesterday.

The Methodist Church’s Secretary for Young People’s Department Reverend Jone Davule said with an increase of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) amongst the Youth, there was a need for providing free medical services for the youths at the event.

“Many young people have died from NCDs in the country which is why we have teamed up with the Health and Medical team, who have provided us well with nurses,” Mr Davule said.

“The nurses have received good turn outs from the youths and also general public who are taking advantage of the free medical screenings.

“Youths have been screened for their Body Mass Index (BMI), sugar and pressure level.

Apart from free medical screening, a blood drive was also conducted.

“For us at the Methodist church in Fiji and Rotuma, we believe in helping people and giving back to the community which is why we must look at all aspects of service.

“So one way we could give back to the community in the North is the gift of life to somebody in need and there is nothing bigger than that,” he added.

The youth camp concludes Saturday.
