A new $7.5m building complex will be built at the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi.

A groundbreaking ceremony was done yesterday by the Then India Sanmaraga Ikya Sangam to mark the start of the significant project.

The complex is envisaged to have a multipurpose cultural hall, retail outlets, head office and accommodation complex.

The secretary-general of TISI Sangam Fiji Damend Gounder said the new complex would be able to house as many as 750 people.

It has had a long planning process but was eventually approved, he added.

“The new complex will enhance the present Nadi Temple and will offer a hall with a seating capacity of 750 people, retail outlets, offices and accommodation units to people of Fiji and abroad.

“The project was funded through fundraising, after lengthy planning and consultation process.

“The TISI Sangam Temple Board and the national executives approved this project which is the largest one undertaken by the organisation.

“This will also help provide employment with businesses being set up and also help embark towards communities’ participation.”

The first phase of construction will begin with the development of the temple and multipurpose cultural hall, and then it will progress onto the construction of the retail shops.
