47 residents salute New Year visitors

A construction company proprietor, his family and staff had a New Year outing with a difference visiting with the residents of the Golden Age Home in Lautoka.

MEL managing director Avi Chaudhry said the visit on the first day of 2018 turned out to be a grand day.

“We have been visiting this home regularly and today we thought as a family and staff to pay a visit to the home to start our year in a grand day,” Mr Chaudhry said.

“These senior citizens are in great care at this home and our visit is simply to make ourselves realise what we miss out in this age.”

Mr Chaudhry’s family and MEL staff were present for a special lunch on the day for the 47 residents and the 23 staff who serve the residents on shifts.

Acting Home welfare officer Luke Keteiwai said, “We are always happy to have visitors to come to our home. This Includes groups, corporate companies who also come throughout out the year.”

“These senior citizens get a smile on their faces when they see these guests.

“This is what we advise visitors that there is always open door policy put in place. This is a blessing to be part of this.”Shrimati, one home’s oldest residents said she was happy to be part of the institution.

The grey haired resident, who can’t remember her age is originally from Tawatawa, Saru in Lautoka and has been part of the home for the last five years.

“I don’t have many families around but I have got a daughter whose husband is a sickly person,” she said.

“I am happy to be part of this home with visitors paying us visits and this usually brightens up my day.

“We are a happy family here.”

72-year-old Chandra Wati who comes from Lokia, in Nausori has been part of the home for the last six months.

She suffered a stroke which now reduces her movements.

“I am happy and enjoy the service provided by the staff here including my medication and the love of other brothers and sisters in the home,” Ms Wati said.
