Bula fellow car enthusiasts and welcome to another week of safe driving.

We had a huge success in the recent Pacific Energy Quarter Mile Drag race. It was Fiji Car Club’s seventh series.

Amal Singh had the fastest time of the day at 12.13 seconds. It was a brilliant run by Amal, as he has been out from majority of the races last year but proved his ability when he won again with his four cylinder car. He is on track to beat the national record soon.

Second was Lakshay Kellappan with a good time of 12.22 seconds. This was his personal best and from where I saw his run he is capable of breaking into 11 seconds in the next Pacific Energy series.

Third was Anish Singh with a time of 12.80 seconds. This was the first time that he had taken part in the drag race and he managed to get third fastest time of the day.

I am very impressed with how well he controlled his powerful car. I am sure he will come out with more modifications on his engine and do a better time when FCC kicks start the Pacific Energy drag race early March. I was also impressed with the spectator turnout. This proves the success of the quarter mile drag race on New Year ’s Eve.

The kids had a great time on the bouncy castle which was provided free of charge, so too the popcorn and candy stalls.

Fiji Car Club has already started talks with parents to involve their kids in this year’s races. We might be having a few exhibitions on Kit Cars especially designed for kids whose ages range between 12 and 16. Obviously we have to import these Kit Cars from New Zealand and once we get the number of parents interested, Fiji Car Club will assist them get the Kit Cars over to Fiji.

Kids are our future and we need to get them to experience drag racing early.

I personally as president of FCC was very happy with the way the executives have worked last year to make each and every event of FCC a huge success.

Earlier last year I had announced that FCC will be hosting seven events. Even though we started the season very late with their sheer determination the executives and volunteers we managed to fulfill our promise of seven events.

This year we have decided to hold eight drag races and two car shows. If time permits we will do a car show in the Northern Division – that will be the biggest challenge for all of us to take all the show cars to the people of North.

Till we meet again – remember road racing is only for idiots. Meanwhile drive safely, everyone.

Raizal Haniff is the President of the Fiji Car Club. This is FCC’s regular feature in our Sun Wheels to keep readers updated on the latest from the Fiji Car Club.
