Cane Farmers To Get Paid By Friday: FSC

Cane Farmers To Get Paid By Friday: FSC
January 10
14:20 2018

The Fiji Sugar Corporation reminds all cane growers of the special and final cane payment to sugar cane growers who delivered cane in the 2016 crop year, of $3.05 per tonne.

This is the final cane payment in respect of the 2016 season crop, and will be paid out on January 12, 2018. The final cane price payable for the 2016 season (including this top-up) will thus increase to $82 per tonne compared to $76.66 per tonne in the 2015 season.

This special 2016 cane top-up payment would be a further support for cane farmers flowing from the ongoing commitment assured by the Prime Minister and Minister of i-Taukei Affairs, Sugar Industry and Foreign Affairs, Voreqe Bainimarama.

The payment is in line with the announcement in October last year, of a final special cane payment to growers for the 2016 crop, to be paid out before the school term in January 2018. There will be no deductions from this special cane payment.

All payments will be disbursed directly to growers, either by cheque or directly into their bank accounts.

Growers, who have existing crop liens with the Sugar Cane Growers’ Fund, will be paid (free of deductions) via the grower’s fund, who will make the deposits directly into the grower bank accounts. Growers’ statements from FSC will indicate this where applicable.

Support for cane farmers remains significant under all programmes initiated by Mr Bainimarama through the Ministry of Sugar Industry. It is particularly pleasing to note the ongoing positive results becoming evident from the material increase in the area planted; supported by the cane planting grant system, as well as the meaningful uplift in fertilizer and weedicide application facilitated by these two additional support programmes. Repairs to cane access roads, funded by the Ministry of Sugar Industry, will be ongoing to ease cane deliveries from farmers in the 2018 season.

FSC extends its best wishes to all school children for the start of the new school year.
