As part of the Government’s objective to stimulate employment, the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) was introduced.

This is to encourage young Fijians to become job creators rather than job seekers.

Under this scheme, grants of up to $20,000 will be given to eligible budding Fijians who have innovative and bankable ideas.

This will enable them to transform their ideas into income generating activities to support their livelihood.

It means that running a business helps young people achieve economic independence, reducing their reliance on their parents, family and the State.

Also it will help curb and eradicate the increasing youth unemployment that threatens economic and political stability.

Young entrepreneurs are more likely to engage with the local communities, spreading their experience and energy, and creating additional jobs.

Employment also boosts a young person’s self-esteem, making them become more productive members of a family and community.

The scheme is open to all young Fijians between the ages of 18 to 30 years, who have completed a two years vocational /technical diploma or a degree from a recognised institution.

The launch of the scheme is aimed at creating awareness on the YES through the handing of grant to the first batch of grant recipients by the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama.

Under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, YES will be launched tomorrow.
