The Rupeni Nasiga-captained BLK Nadroga team is ready to claim the inaugural 2018 Skipper Provincial Rugby 10s title on Saturday.

The Stallions have been the champion rugby province and are ready to add another silverware to their cabinet in the CJ Patel sponsored event at Bidesi Park, uva.

Nadroga Rugby president Tiko Matawalu said the objective was to win the top prize.

“We want to start the 2018 season by winning the first 10s competition,” Matawalu said.

“Our goal is to prepare our team to win. I believe all the eight teams have the same objective.

“We will give our best shot and we have a mix of senior and upcoming players. It’s a one day tournament and a lot at stake.

He added the competition has come in at the right time during the off season.

“This is new and normally at this time teams play warm-up match for the Skipper Cup which starts in April.”

Apart from Nasiga, the squad includes Avete Salawaqavuka, Timoci Sauvoli, Jone Navori, Nemani Camainakelo, Ratunaisa Navuma, Sakiusa Nakalevu and Fijian Under-20 rep Veremalua Vugakoto.

“We have senior players to guide the young players in our 30-man squad.

“We have seven games to play before the top four teams are decided. “Focus is on preparation and hope to start well and proceed from there. We will give our best shot.”

The winner will receive $5000, runner-up $2500. Third placed team receive $1500 while the fourth placed get $800.

The 10s also provide a final opportunity for players to make a case for selection for the Brisbane Global Rugby 10s squad. The Brisbane 10s will be held on February 9-10.

Nadroga face Malolo in their opening clash at 9am.
