Australian Football League (AFL) Fiji will send six Under-16 players to compete in the Queensland State Championship in Australia in May.

AFL Fiji head coach Simon Highfield confirmed yesterday that six players would be selected after the Powerade Cup competition in March.

“All clubs are responsible for their own training and most them have begun with their training already,” Highfield said.

“I feel this is a great opportunity for these young talents to get exposed to high level competition and also get to play for clubs in Australia as well.

“For the Powerade Cup we are expecting four men’s and two women’s team to compete and I’m encouraging other local clubs who are interested to join the competition.

“We are still seeking for financial assistance to cater for the expenses of the six players and coach who will be travelling to Queensland.

“We are requesting businesses to come on board to support AFL Fiji as we need funding to conduct development programmes around the country later in the year.”
