Gu Yu said China was looking forward to working together with Fiji to seize greater opportunity brought by the ‘One Belt and One Road’ international co-operation.

Two hundred official vehicles are expected to be handed to our Government as it arrives from China this year.

Charge d’ Affaires ad Interim of the Chinese Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Gu Yu confirmed on Thursday that this year, China-Fiji co-operation would usher in a new upsurge.

“200 official vehicles donated by China are on their way to Fiji and will arrive soon. And the second Phase of Juncao Mushroom Demonstration Center Project and the Navua Hospital Technical Co-operation Project are going smoothly,” he said.

He said the second Phase of Rice Technology Co-operation Project and the Seaport and Airport Security Inspection System Project would also start soon.

“We are planning to carry out the Maintenance Project of Aquatic Center and the Hockey Ground of the Suva Multi-purpose Sports Complex.

“China and Fiji have a profound traditional friendship.

“We are true friends who could suffer from difficulties together and good partners of mutually beneficial co-operation.”

Mr Yu said that as developing countries in the Asian-Pacific region, the two countries shared similar developing tasks and extensive common interests.

He said the Chinese government attached great importance to developing a relationship with Fiji and respects Fiji’s developing path of independence and conforming to its own national conditions.

“China is willing to actively devote ourselves to carrying out friendly exchanges and co-operation with Fiji at all levels and in other fields, and do our best to help Fiji to achieve economic and social development.

“China’s Foreign Assistance is selfless and sincere with no political conditions attached and non-interference in internal affairs of aid recipient countries.”

He said people in the aid recipient countries have always had the most say whether China Aid is good and effective or not.

He said China was looking forward to working together with Fiji to seize greater opportunity brought by the ‘One Belt and One Road’ international co-operation.

He said this enhanced mutual trust, expanded exchanges, promoted co-operation and continuously enriched the connotation of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

“This would push the China-Fiji relationship to a new level, enhance South-South Co-operation in the spirit of equality and mutual respect, and build a new type of win-win international relationship and a community of shared future for mankind.”

In iTaukei Mr Yu said: “A famous iTaukei saying goes “Na qai qo ena qai ga.” so therefore Fiji and China relationship will continuously be on growth.

“I wish that the Fijian people could achieve better and faster economic and social development!”
