Kumar Believes In Innovative Systems

The use of geographic information systems in farming is an innovative idea brought to the table by Rovil Kumar as his proposal for the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES).

As one of the recipients of the grant of $20,000.

He aims to utilise the knowledge he gained as a student of the University of the South Pacific where he is currently pursuing a degree in geographic information systems.

“The use of drones for farming is important to map the growth rate of the farmed vegetation and to also denote the health of the harvest,” said Mr

“I aim to use my agriculture background, as my grandfather was into intensive farming and I want to follow in his footsteps.

“I believe that the potential for agriculture is remarkable and the youth of today are underestimating the money-making ability of it .

“I for one will take full advantage of the opportunity handed to me,” Mr Kumar said.

At a young age of 21, he intends on setting up a farm on the land owned by his family and he aims to increase the farming capacity of the area through knowledge and experiences from both his field of study and knowledge passed down to his family.

After applying to the YES programme Mr Kumar hopes to help his family in expanding the farm located in Nadi and approach hotel for the sale of produce.
