Defence and creating goal scoring opportunities will be the main focus for Rewa when they take on Suva in their opening round of the Vodafone Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, 3pm tomorrow.

Rewa coach Marika Rodu said they’re expecting a tough match from the capital city side.

“Preparations have been coming out well for the ‘Delta Tigers’ as we are expecting a tough first match,”Rodu said.

“We are waiting for the Fiji Football Association transfer window to open on Monday as we could welcome players for other districts in 2018.

“Defence is one of the crucial areas that we have been focusing on at training.

“We are expecting a good game against the capital city side because I am aware that they have been preparing well.

“We are pleased to have Mohammed Nizal back in the team as he just returned from New Zealand and will be playing at midfield.

“And we will not take the opposition lightly as they can possibly surprise us in the last minute.

“A few of our players are injured and chances are that they might not be able to play this weekend.”

Rodu also said despite Suva suspending three key players for three years, the capital side should not be taken lightly.

Veteran Pita Rabo, Tevita Koroi and Leone Damudamu were suspended for bringing Suva Football to disrepute during the Courts Inter-District Championship last year.

“Despite the suspension of three experienced players, I don’t think it would be an advantage for our side. I’m aware Suva still has some experienced players.

“As a coach, it’s all about focusing on the 11 players on the field and how they can create goal scoring opportunities.

“I would like to urge to all the fans of the Rewa football team to come out in numbers and support the ‘Delta Tigers.’

“We will not only be playing in our first Vodafone Premier League match but also celebrating Rewa Football’s 90 years of existence.”
