Bula fellow car enthusiasts. As you all are aware, our awards night will be held in the coming few weeks. We know the excitement is building amongst all our members.

This is a special night for all our participants as the Fiji Car Club gets to recognise their efforts throughout the year.

Currently the executives are in the process of finalising a suitable venue for the awards night and we will notify our members through our Facebook page and through this column as soon as the venue is confirmed.

There will be various categories ranging from winners in each seconds category to categories such as open diesel, open hybrid and open ladies.

Each category winner is determined by a points system. Five points is given for participation, 10 points for runner up and 20 points for winner.

This is why we always emphasise that participation is very important as you even get points for participating.

Last year the overall winner was Hitesh Pala as he not only gained points for winning in the Diesel category but also overall participation in almost every event.

Fiji Car Club continues to emphasise the importance of following road rules.

Last year ended with a high number of fatal accidents which claimed so many lives.

Drivers need to understand that when they get behind a car wheels, they have the lives of their passengers, other drivers as well as pedestrians in their hands.

Fiji Car Club continues to promote safer driving. One of the ways to avoid accidents, is ensuring you have good quality tyres and your vehicle is up to par.

The drivers need to pay attention and focus on driving without getting distracted.

Accidents happen in the blink of an eye and we have reiterated, you have the lives of road users on your hands.

Many accidents happen because drivers are overconfident and do not realise there are other road users and they cannot predict the actions of others.

So it is best to be safe and be focussed when you are driving.

Until we meet next week, have a safe driving week.

Rahul Rajesh is the Fiji Car Club Secretary. This is a weekly column by the Fiji Car Club.
