The headboy and headgirl of St Thomas Primary School were surprised they were picked as leaders.

Headboy Emosi Vunitabua and headgirl Eden Wedlock were yesterday badged as the school heads during the prefects induction in Lautoka.

Emosi told the Fiji Sun he was nervous and excited about the role he had been given.

“Being the headboy is a huge task and I was surprised when the school management chose me for this role,” he said.

“Today is my first day as headboy, so I am excited, happy and nervous as well.

“So for the students of St Thomas, I will try my best to lead them through the year. My advice to them is to follow the rules and always respect your elders.”

Headgirl Eden of Tailevu advised the students to always look out for each other and always have the confidence to speak the truth.

“Students need to look out for each other, if they see someone not abiding by the rules they need to speak up. As a headgirl I am not here to lead, I am here to learn as well,; I will listen to the students and ensure that we lead with good examples.”

She said she was surprised when she found out that she had been selected to be the headgirl.

The student leaders said they planned to become doctors in the future.
