Commonwealth Games Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower was pleased with the response of athletes to the High Performance workshop at the Holiday Inn Suva yesterday.

“We thought it would be a good idea to bring in specialists to help guide our athletes in taking the technical steps to changing their mindsets on setting their goals,” Bower said.

He told SUNsports that mental strengthening was something that they needed to work on.

“We want to prepare our athletes and officials to re-think their process and remove anything that will limit and hinder them from achieving their goals and reaching the next level.”

Bower said he was pleased with how involved the athletes and officials were in terms of responding to the topics being discussed.

“Just by the expression on their faces we can tell that the workshop was an eye and mind opener for our athletes and officials. We know the theory but we do not know how to take the practical steps.”

He said the workshop was also a good learning platform for the athletes and officials in terms of planning and re-charting their course for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast, Australia.
