Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Timoci Naleba believes the current payment uproar by NRL players is an attempt to destabilise the organisation.

He was replying to questions regarding the payout comments made against FNRL to the Australian media.

“FNRL never received any signed or authenticated official complaint from the players but somehow it’s taken to the media,” Naleba said yesterday.

“There are some people that have ill intent and are trying to destabilise FNRL.

“These are incorrect information and there are certain elements who are trying to stir up things.”

Naleba downplayed allegations on social media that FNRL owed money and is the reason behind the late payment of players.

“To clarify the logistics and operations in Australia were paid by the Rugby League World Cup and not by FNRL and as for the hotel accommodation here in Fiji it has been fully paid.”

He reiterated that allegations about FNRL needing money to cover for any kind of financial loss was incorrect.

“Again I would clarify the World Cup money was not wired to us but it stayed in Australia and it is still there with the National Rugby League (NRL).

“No money from the RLWC is here with us, because it was how the players had wanted it,” he added.
