The two newly-appointed head prefects at Naqali District School, Naitasiri are geared up for a year of responsibility ahead of them.

At 13, both Cema Boteivanua and Joshua Veikoso represent the link between the teachers and 216 students at the remote school – a task the duo said they were ready to shoulder.

Parents and teachers at the induction ceremony on Friday (February 9) cheered loudly as the head prefects went on stage to receive their badges.

Joshua, originally from Kanakana Village in Cakaudrove province, Vanua Levu, said he wanted to be a model leader who could set an example for his fellow students to follow.

While for Cema, a native of Gusuisavu Village, leadership is about being honest and reliable.

“I want to be a good leader and help my teachers,” she said.

The duo stood proudly and took the oath with their fellow student leaders, pledging to serve the school with love, respect, truth and dignity.

Chief Guest Attorney-General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum congratulated the prefects. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum told the two head prefects and their fellow student leaders to always tell the truth. Edited by Percy Kean
