Graduate Women (Fiji) has recently announced the participation of its treasurer, Rosalia Fatiaki, as a participant in the 2018 Global Change Leaders Programme at Coady International Institute in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The programme will be held from May 9 to June 28, 2018.

Established in 2011, the Global Change Leaders Programme is a seven-week education programme offered by Coady Institute’s International Centre for Women’s Leadership.

This programme enables women from developing countries to strengthen their leadership capacities in order to contribute to innovation and change in their organisations and communities.

Programme participants engage in learning grounded in real world experiences and focused on Coady’s core thematic areas.

Through a shared learning environment with other emerging women leaders from around the world, participants are exposed to a range of experiences and the beginnings of a potentially lifelong network of support.

Ms Fatiaki will be the first participant from the South Pacific Region since the inception of the programme and will be representing GWF.

In representing GWF, she will advocate for the significance of encouraging and empowering women to pursue higher education despite the numerous challenges women in less developing countries are faced with.

“We are a country where women hold key positions in society, whether it is in the home, the workplace, government or in business,” Ms Fatiaki said.

“We need to ensure enabling platforms exist to encourage the participation of women in various sectors of the economy and by pursuing higher education, women in Fiji will be able to do so.”

Graduate Women (Fiji) is a non-governmental organisation of women who have earned educational qualifications beyond the secondary school level.

Founded in 1983 by women graduates living in Suva, GWF aims to promote the quality of life of women and girls, through higher education.
