Abraham Masivesi Pickering, of Nakobo village, in Savusavu started his poultry farm in 2012 and has no regrets ever since.

He is one of the Micro and Small Business Grant (MSBG) recipients. He received his grant in 2017.

“I received the $1000 grant for my poultry farm. I am grateful for the assistance the Government is giving us through MSBG,” Mr Pickering said.

“I built a chicken shed but then I realisedt that the chicken didn’t like it so I am going to rebuild a new one that will have a water pipe inside which will flush out the dirt.”

The 49-year-old said yaqona was his main source of income.

“I bought a truck two years ago and have started going into the transportation business,’’ he said.

“I started my poultry farm with only three hens but now I have over 300 mother hens. I don’t have any competition because I am the only one selling in my area.

“I have made cases around the house so that the hens can lay eggs there and I collect them later. My son is working with me. I always leave five eggs in the box and the rest is for family consumption. My customers are mostly drivers who pass my house.”

Mr Pickering urges people to work hard and start from scratch. The journey is not easy but worth it.
