Ratu Inoke: Claims Of Relocating MSG Secretariat To Fiji Not True

The claim by Solomon Islands Prime Minister Rick Houenipwela that Fiji wanted the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) secretariat relocated to Fiji is not true, says Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

He said he raised Fiji’s concern on the Vanuatu government not honouring the MSG Host Country Agreement, especially in delays of issuance of work permits to the staff members of the MSG Secretariat.

Ratu Inoke also raised concerns on the Vanuatu government micromanaging the secretariat.

He suggested that if Vanuatu could not honour the host country agreement then maybe the secretariat should be relocated to another country like Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Mr Houenipwela was answering a question raised in the Solomon Islands Parliament regarding the sour relationship with member countries of the MSG.

He said there were six and one of them was Fiji wanting the MSG secretariat relocated to Fiji.

Mr Houenipwela said all these issues of differences were settled so leaders agreed to move on.
