Jagdish Chand, 55, started making soap in 2005 as a small scale business but he was able to expand his business in 2008 after he was assisted by Northern Development Programme (NDP) grant.

He received $25,000 in a grant from the NDP and a loan of $38,810,00 from a bank.

“I was in soap business and there was a lot of competition. I have diverted my business to produce virgin coconut oil and noni juice,” Mr Chand said.

“I have six labourers who help in the factory. I have been in the business for the past 10 years.”

Mr Chand said he planed to let his son take over the business.

“I am happy with what I have achieved. We have great potential in this business,” he said.

“The produce from the factory is exported. Everything I have achieved till today is through hard work though I have little education background as I only reached Form 5.” Edited by Mohammed Zulfikar
