The seven-star resort owned barge, MV Qioni Laucala transports food supplies, fuel, maintenance equipment and other relevant materials to the island.

Laucala Island Resort is an ultimate private island hideaway for celebrities around the world. The seven-star resort has fast become the choice of many business tycoons as well.

The private island that lies to the east of  Thurston Point on the island of  Taveuni, replenishes it supplies to maintain its world class service through its shipping service, the MV Qio ni Laucala.

Chief engineer Manoa Taladia said the barge travels to and from the island on a weekly basis.

“For many who visited Mua-i-walu Port in Walu Bay would have no clue about the role of the MV Qio ni Laucala. The barge was brought in specifically to service Laucala  island and cater for it needs,” Mr Taladia said.

“We leave the island every Sunday and we arrive here on Monday,” he said.

“We lay over for at least two days in order to stock up with supplies and we return to the island either on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. We are based there on the island so while we are there, we do maintenance work and help out on the island,” he said.

He said there are eight crew members and they enjoy working for the island.

“We love working on this vessel,” he said.

“It is much better than working in other shipping companies or from our past experiences because the working conditions are very good.”

The vessel first arrived in to the country in 2011 from Malaysia.
