The Kini Vuira skippered Cagimaira rugby club is looking forward to make their debut at the 2018 Martintar 7’s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this Friday.

The Lawai, Nadroga based side has been revived this year having participated in various tournaments such as the Congo Waimanu 7s, Nasinu 7s, and Nawaka 7s.

President Jerry Cakau, a former Volleyball official said the team was preparing well for the Martintar 7s.

“We are reviving this team; current players are all new ones. We have a mixture of young and old. That is what I am trying to do is to train and equip them for the future,” he said.

“My main aim for the formation of the club was to use up the boys in the Lawai, Nadroga and nearby villages boys who are eager to continue with their dreams of becoming professional rugby players.

Some of the prominent names that have represented the clubs includes former 7’s stars winger Neumi Nanuku, Timoci Volavola, Jone Daunivucu, Uwa Tavale, Jonetani Ratu, and Kini Vuira to name a few.

This team has bred some prominent players with the likes of former national 7’s rep Dale Tonawai, and Kini Salabogi.

“They have reached finals and been crowned champions on occasions, founded in the past 50 years; the Club reached much maiden history and had also tasted success,” he said.

He added they are in a process of organising one of their own 7s tournament as well.

“As a sport personal I always look to engage players in many aspects of sports life. As our motto is ‘Performers for every stage, expressing talents in every field’.

“The Rugby Club program is something I feel that the players can take pride in and can be their own stage. Even over a small period, I have noticed the vast improvement in the Clubs engagement from the players, ex – players and the community. I hope the program can continue to be an incentive for the players to achieve well on and off the field.”

Meanwhile, the 5th FWCC Martintar 7s committee member Timoci Waqaniburotu has confirmed that a total of 32 teams will be part of the event.

Warden’s team will be defending their title in a bid to increase back to back wins to three from 2016 -2017.
