High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo will sentence a 33-year-old Hem Rabneet Singh today for the murder of his wife in 2015.

The Sigatoka man was convicted for murder after he pleaded guilty to murdering his 29-year-old wife near his home in Tagitagi Settlement in Semo on July 1, 2015.

Singh appeared before Justice Temo yesterday represented by Legal Aid lawyer Lisiate Qetaki who made oral submissions of plea mitigation on his behalf.

State lawyer Timoci Qalinauca appeared for the Prosecution.

In his submissions, Mr Qetaki said the accused has three children who are in primary school and works in Lautoka earning $160 per week.

Mr Qetaki said the accused had exercised good character previously with this being his first conviction as a first offender.

He mentioned that the guilty plea had been entered after the accused had a moment of realisation and had opted not to relive the moments that led to the murder of his late wife.

Defence submitted that Singh understood the consequences of his guilty plea, the severity of the crime and apologised for his actions.

The court also heard that the accused was not well educated as his parents were not financially stable enough to send him to school.
