My boy is a quiet one, a silent achiever-Sarafina Lewaninabuli

Mum Sarafina Lewaninabuli said watching her son Vasikali Mudu achievehis dream as a member of the Fiji Airways Fijians 7s team was the best feeling she had as a mother.

Mudu played for the Gareth Baber-coached side in the World Sevens Series in Las Vegas and was named the 13th player in Vancouver last week.

“After all we have been through, watching him progress and play for Fiji on television was the best feeling for me,” Lewanibuli said.

“He was always a quiet one, you know those silent achievers who just go about doing things expected of him quietly and I am very proud of his achievement.”

She shared how they endured the hardships and challenges that life threw at them, especially being a single Mum earning her living as a market vendor in Nadi.

“It was really hard for us, but now with Vasi (Mudu) playing at international level, things have really eased up as he supports us financially,”she said.

“At first I used to sell things in small amounts but now things have changed. Mudu gave me money so I could buy more, sell more and earn more for our family.

“So I want to congratulate him on his achievement, he made the family proud and I want to thank all the Fijians locally and abroad for their prayers, praying for my son and the team.”

Experince from Sevens Series

The 23-year-old said he learned a lot from his experience while playing in the World Sevens Series.

“It was unity and “veilomani” that got us through,” Mudu said.

2013 Deans Final

Mudu was also part of the Ratu Navula College (RNC) that defeated Queen Victoria School (QVS) 19-16 and won their first ever Deans Trophy in 2013.
