Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the New Zealand Defence Minister Ron Mark will be at the unveiling of the RNZAF 5th Squadron monument at the University of the South Pacific (USP).

According to the programme they will jointly be unveiling the Commemorative Monument on March 23 at the FBE Post Graduate Centre, Laucala Campus, Suva.

A USP media release said the institution commenced operations at the Laucala Campus in February 1968. The campus is situated on land previously occupied by the 5 Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Airforce (RNZAF). In September 1942, the 5 Squadron transferred to Laucala Bay, Suva.

The RNZAF are bringing three planes from New Zealand and over 100 ex 5 Squadron servicemen and women are travelling to Suva for the joint unveiling.

5:20pm – Welcome Address by Professor Rajesh Chandra, Vice-   Chancellor and President

5:25pm – Message from New Zealand Government by Hon. Ron Mark, Minister of Defence, New Zealand

5:30pm – Waiata (music) in support of New Zealand Government message

5:35pm – Message from the Prime Minister and Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Sugar Industry, and Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (Retired) Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama

5:40pm – Unveiling of Commemorative Monument jointly by the Prime Minister and Minister for i-Taukei Affairs, Sugar Industry, and Foreign Affairs Rear Admiral (Retired) Hon. Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama and Hon. Ron Mark, Minister of Defence, New Zealand.

5:45pm – Dedication to Commemorative Monument by Chaplain

5:50pm – Laying of Wreath by Chief of New Zealand Air Force and Senior Fijian Military Representative

5:55pm – Lowering of New Zealand and Fiji flags to half mast

5:59pm – Benediction and final words by Chaplain
