The Tuvalu national team will make their debut at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Suva next week.

The team played at the Uluinakau 7s at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Trainer Louis Uluibau said the players  were excited to participate in the two-day tournament and the fact that some of these players would be playing the sport in front of thousands of fans would be a great exposure for them.

“We are so lucky to be a part of Marist 7s next week and we are looking forward and also excited to take part,” Uluibau said.

“We are on track with our preparation.”

The side are using the Uluinakau 7s as a build-up for the much anticipated 42nd Marist tournament.

“Every game that we play, we learn from it. I think we will do well at the Marist 7s,”Uluibau said.

He also mentioned that taking part in the tournaments in Fiji would help them develop their skills when participating in big tournaments.

“Playing 7s rugby in Fiji is the only way we know we can develop our players.”

Uluibau acknowledged their sponsor Brian Grooms from Hong Kong and their president Mika Elesia for supporting the boys.
