Suva Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa yesterday remanded a man in custody after he appeared on a bribery charge.

Akuila Batiweti appeared in court charged with one count of bribery of a public official.

On March 30, 2018, Batiweti is alleged to have provided $10 without reasonable excuse to a Police corporal who was in due execution of her duty.

He allegedly did this with the intention of influencing the Police corporal not to book him in the exercise of her official duty as a public officer.

Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar served the accused with full phase disclosures and requested if the matter could be transferred to the Magistrates Court 4 to be called before Magistrate Waleen George.

Accordingly Magistrate Boseiwaqa remanded the accused and adjourned the case to April 13, 2018.
