Former Fijian residents Jai Reddy and his wife Laxmi have returned to their home town of Nadi to start business ventures with total investments of $2 million.

Since returning, the couple is trying to entice family members living overseas to consider investing in Fiji.

The couple, who left Nadi some 30 years ago for the United States, own Shop Rite Supermarket and Relax Resort Fiji in Sonaisali, close to where they grew up.

Both business entities were purchased from New Zealand businessman Bobby Khan.

Mr Khan, a local businessman, is also the person who convinced the couple to return to Fiji and invest.

Recently, Mr Kumar opened Coffee Aroma, a modern coffee outlet in Nadi Town.

“We aim to open more supermarkets and coffee shops in Fiji,” Mr Reddy said.

“We saw a lot of prospects in Fiji so we decided to return after spending 30 years in the United States.”

Mr Khan said he noticed a lot of people returning to Fiji mainly to take advantage of the provisions of thedual citizenship, which was approved by the government a few years ago.

“After that moment, I have been marketing Fiji a lot in China, U.S, Australia and New Zealand to come back and invest in Fiji as this is the only island where you can both relax and do business in at the same time.”

Mr Khan said the location for the coffee shop was excellent as there was no such outlet towards the Suva end of Nadi town.

The couple worked in the medical profession in the U.S and saw that the types of coffee shops there did not exist in Fiji.

“So we decided to start a coffee shop here in Nadi with a U.S concept,” Mr Reddy said.

Ms Reddy said they currently employed five staff at the coffee shop, including a pastry chef and coffee baristas.

Ms Reddy said they were glad to be back home, having being born and raised here.

She said the best thing was meeting and being among family and old friends.

“We are bringing our families back from overseas to return and invest here and the indications are positive,” Ms Reddy added.
