People in the Northern Division are advised to continue monitoring the weather news.

A team, led by the Commissioner Northern, Jovesa Vocea, have been in operation since Monday.

“We have started monitoring when we heard the weather advice from Nadi that there was a tropical depression coming over to Fiji,” Mr Vocea said.

“All our Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) has been monitoring and the District Officers (DO’s). The disciplinary forces were on standby and that is the Police, military and fire authority should we need them in case of an evacuation.”

Mr Vocea said the Northern Division was fortunate that they did not go to the extent of activating evacuation centres.

“Right now we are monitoring and giving advice to our people to take heed of the weather situation in the Northern division. Even when Tropical Cyclone Josie is weakening down but we will continue  our work at our EOCs both divisional and districts,” he said.

“We are sending our situation reports to the National Disaster Management Office every six hours.  Right now we have 12 inaccessible roads in Vanua Levu but our main roads are all open except the one that goes to Wainunu.”
