Students and workers were stuck at Soasoa, in Labasa, for more than four hours because of floodwaters brought about by heavy downpour yesterday.

Police officers were at the scene to ensure that the public were safe.

There was traffic congestion on either end of the flooded area as vehicles were not able to cross over.

Inosi Moce, 45, said it was the first time he had come across flooding in the area.

“I live in Malau and we have been stranded here at around 6:30 am. I am taking my children to school,” Mr Moce said.

“I hope that the authority concerned will clear the drain as blockage is a main source of flooding. I am glad that we are all safe.”

Elenoa Borisi, 52, said the flood has really affected the people who come through that road to Labasa.

“Whenever it rains this area floods and I hope that something is done about it before anything bad happens,” Ms Borisi said.

“Now we don’t have a choice but to go home. I am glad that Police officers are here making sure that the public are safe.”
