There was a lot of celebration and merry-making in Seaqaqa on Tuesday during the opening of the Natua Women’s Club kitchen.

The club also received electrical utensils, chairs, tables and a fridge which was funded by Government.

Chief guest, Commissioner Northern Joseva Vocea, while opening the kitchen, said Government was committed towards women by providing them with more opportunities compared to yesteryears.

“Government, through the office of the Prime Minister, allocated approximately $47,000 under the Small Grant Scheme,” Mr Vocea said.

“Government believes that our women are a crucial part of the Fijian economy given the contribution they are making through small and medium enterprises.

“This kitchen project aims to empower the Natua Women’s Group by bringing in more economic returns through the various activities such as catering, hiring of halls, utensils and so forth.”

Natua Women’s Club president Satya Kumar Prasad said: “This is the only Indo-Fijian registered club in Seaqaqa district and we have been active in so many ways thus have been working with the Women’s Group in Seaqaqa, Health Department, DO’s office, Department of Women and Red Cross to mention a few.

“The club has been working with great enthusiasm in partnership with Government to provide greater services to the Rural Women.

“We are really very happy to work in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office. The club is now fully equipped with all facilities.”
