A texting platform introduced recently by the Land Transport Authority has resulted in an increase in the number of complaints against motorists.

So far this year, the LTA has received 1361 complaints of which 1265 were sent via the texting platform – text number 582.

In a statement on Tuesday, the LTA said: “The increase in complaints depicts the public are aware of the services at LTA (like the texting platform).

It is encouraging to see that road users are more aware and taking advantage of the services.

“For the same period last year there were 958 complaints.’’

There were 493 complaints about public transport while 394 complaints were about  enforcement issues such as breach of road rules.

The most common types of offences registered were dark tints, smoke emission, careless driving, parking, mobile communication, irregular bus service, overloading, driver attitude, loud music and taxi service.

“While it is a fact that LTA and Police are not present everywhere, we encourage public support in bringing road users who do not abide by the road rules to task,” the authority said.
