We are so fortunate that services we’ve always wanted are now at our door steps, says Nataleira Village headman Asaele Donu.

Yesterday in Dawasamu, Tailevu, more than 30 Government departments, non-government agencies and private companies were part of the Tailevu North Government Roadshow at the Nataleira Village grounds. It was the first Government roadshow held there this year.

“We face challenges in accessing these services because first of all, our road access is not really good,” he said.

“The cost of travelling from the village to get these services was too expensive and at times they go back home with disappointments of not getting any service at all. We are so thankful for this opportunity.”

Opening the event, the Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Naipote Katonitabua, said the aim of the roadshow was to take the services offered by Government and its partners to the targeted population including remote rural and maritime communities.

He said it was a part of the wider vision to empower rural communities and to ensure progressively that every Fijian had access to basic services.

About 30 different organisations offered their services to the Dawasamu community.

The two-day event was co-ordinated by the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management through the Office of the Divisional Commissioners.

Fifiteen villages were part of the roadshow. They were also provided free transportation to and from Nataleira Village to take part in the roadshow, which ends today.
