‘Why don’t you all cook one pot of dhal each then go and give it to the people living in the affected areas, rather than complaining about us not doing enough?’

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said Opposition politicians should be visiting the flood-stricken areas in the West instead of making suggestions on what the Government should be doing.

“Why don’t you all cook one pot of dhal each then go and give it to the people living in the affected areas, rather than complaining about us not doing enough,” Mr Bainimarama said.

The Prime Minister was responding to comments by Opposition politicians such as National Federation Party leader Biman Prasad and Fiji Labour Party parliamentary leader Aman Ravindra-Singh.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister along with two cabinet ministers, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya and Waterways Minister Mahendra Reddy visited affected areas from Nadi to Ba.

The Prime Minister said Fijians in the affected areas needed action, not suggestions.

Mr Bainimarama was disappointed with the fact that some politicians had used the misfortune of fellow Fijians in the affected areas for their own political agenda.

More Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel have been deployed to the affected areas reinforcing the Fiji Corrections Service and National Fire Authority personnel already in the area.

More than 1000 food rations had been supplied to the affected areas over the past few days.

Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau said all food pack rations should be delivered by yesterday at the latest.
