The Republic of Fiji Military Forces will use all available resources to assist Fijians affected by the recent floods in the Western and Northern divisions.

This statement was made by RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto yesterday.

He said if the need arose then the RFMF would close the office and get its officers to help in the clean-up effort.

Military personnel recently helped to clean up Ba Muslim Primary School and Xavier College after the schools were affected by the floods.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said RFMF had approximately 200 officers and soldiers in the Western Division and 30 deployed to the Northern Division for the clean-up effort.

This included engineers and officers and soldiers from the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR).

“We are helping to clean up the schools, not only cleaning up the school and the surrounding compounds, but we are really mindful of the weather this weekend,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said.

“If it hits us, the debris and other things that are there now are cleared and it will not hit us worse.

“We are looking after the furniture to go up to the second level to keep it clean.

“We are also working in Labasa right now because there is flooding in Labasa too and we have people on standby for both the Western Division and the Northern Division in case we are needed.

“We are working in clearing out all the schools.”

Rear Admiral Naupoto said RFMF personnel were also distributing rations and water.

“We have a water truck that belongs to RFMF and we are distributing water and packing rations for the families,” he said.

“If the need arises for more people then we will always be there to assist.

“We are doing what we are supposed to be doing. We will give our best shot and make sure that the assistance goes to those who need it in a timely manner,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said.
