The Fiji Ports rugby team’s campaign for a top eight finish at the Suva Rugby Union club competition received a major boost yesterday.

The side were presented with their brand new jersey and sports gear worth about $3000 from Fiji Ports Terminal Limited’s chief executive officer Hasthika Dela.

Ports coach, Malakai Radikedike told SUNsports that not only are they looking to better their performance but they are also hoping to win the prestigious Escott Shield.

“We have been playing for the last two years,” Radikedike said.

“We are hoping to reach the top eight and maybe win the competition.”

Team manager Tomasi Katonivualiku added that being a part of the Suva Rugby Union competition last year has seen the team improved in terms of performance.

“Last year was our first time in the Koroturaga Challenge and we were one of the top teams so we were promoted to the Escott Challenge. We are thankful to the company for the donation. The new set of jersey has come at the right time as we are to play in the third round of games this week.
“Tomorrow we will be playing against (Regent) Breakthrough one of the top guns of the Suva Rugby Union competition and we have prepared well for them.”

The match kicks-off at 9.40am today at Bidesi Park.
