Natogadravu, Tailevu native Epeli Herbert Rabua was on cloud nine after reaching the semifinal of the 100metres breaststroke last night.

Rabua and Taichi Vakasama both qualified for the semifinal for the first time.

Rabua clocked 1:05.46min in heat two and Vakasama stopped the clock at 1:04.25min in heat three.

Rabua, 19, said reaching the semifinal was a pleasant surprise.

“As I entered the gate I told a security officer that I would make the semifinal in the next Commonwealth Games.

“But reaching the semis means a lot to me as we have been working hard with our coach Sharon,”he said.

The University of the South Pacific student acknowledged the support of his parents, Swimming Fiji, coach Sharon Smith and teammates for their support.
