Probe Launched Into College Fire

The Ministry of Education and National Fire Authority are conducting separate investigations into a fire at the Technical College of Fiji Vanua Levu Arya Campus in Labasa.

Sources living near the college campus confirmed that the fire started about 9.15pm and the authority responded after a phone call from someone in the neighbourhood.

It is learned that 63 students had been relocated to vacant classrooms within the campus after one block was destroyed in fire on Wednesday night.

The damaged block housed four classrooms for welding and fabrication, mechanical engineering, auto electrical, body work and spray painting courses. Also damaged were a refrigerator and gas stove

Sources revealed that the estimated cost of damage is about $150,000.

Police spokesman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident and that Police would await the NFA report before taking further action.
