The Suva Rugby Touch Association got their first round of competition underway at the Sacred Heart College ground in Suva yesterday.

Association vice-president Fredy Dumaru said yesterday that they are trying to recruit new players into the team.

“Organising the competition will be good for the coaches in terms of selection for the Pacific Games that is coming up,” Dumaru said.

“We are trying to have new players along with some old ones as well. There is six weeks left for the completion of the competition then soon after that we will have other tournaments coming up.”

Dumaru added that the competition would be a build-up for the teams that will be qualifying for the Fiji Cup tournament in November.

“We have a top 8 competition that we have put in the calendar so that means the four best teams in the Suva competition play against the four best teams from the west.

“The top four from the eight teams will go to the November tournament which is the Fiji Cup where participants from New Zealand, Australia and other Pacific Island nations will be playing in.”
