Wilson Looks For Replacement Players

The coach of the Fijian Pearls netball team says, her side have been decimated by injuries prior to next week’s Oceania World Cup qualifier in New Zealand.
Fiji, Samoa, the Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea and Tonga are competing at the weeklong tournament in Auckland, with the top two teams going to next year’s World Cup in England.
This week at the Commonwealth Games, the Pearls lost all six of their matches and several key players to injury, including the squad’s two tallest members.
Coach Vicki Wilson told Radio New Zealand she may need to call up replacements for the Auckland tournament.
“We’ve got three players that are definitely not travelling to the qualifiers. A couple of others have to be medically assessed – we’re just hoping they might recover in time,” she said.
“We’ve got a couple of selection meetings going on again tonight, just working through our list and making sure we’ve got full cover on all positions.”
The Pearls play their first game in Auckland against Tonga on Wednesday.
