In a bid to ensure that the three-day 2018 Coca-Cola Games at the ANZ Stadium in Suva are incident free, the Fiji Police Force is deploying 75 officers and five detection dogs.

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Maretino Qiolevu said Police operations would not only be looking at the safety at the Games venue, but also where the athletes were being accommodated.

“Students from other divisions will be travelling to Suva, which is why the operation will not only be focused at the ANZ Stadium,”ACP Qiolevu said.

“But there is the safety of students and parents accommodated at various schools where we will be patrolling regularly.

“The Traffic Unit will have maximum visibility on our roads with officers out on motorbikes monitoring road users.”

ACP Qiolevu said the games venue would be closely monitored by various specialised units.

“Officers from the Special Response Unit will be deployed to keep a close eye on those who may want to sneak in prohibited items and substances as it has been an issue during the past,” he said.

“The athletes have invested a lot of time in training, which is why it is imperative for parents, spectators and ex-scholars to enjoy the event responsibly and allow the athletes to enjoy their moment and we are working hard to ensure we have an incident free Coca-Cola Games.”

He said public transport would also be monitored by Police because there was an increase of student vandalism.

Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji marketing manager Lawrence Tikaram said: “The Coca-Cola Games is all about sharing the good moments and sharing the Fijian spirit.”
