It will take more than three weeks to fully restore power on the island, five of our generators were destroyed including the transformers too: Assistant Minister

The cost of damage on the energy sector in Kadavu after it was hit by Tropical Cyclone Keni stands at $84,000.

This has been confirmed by Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Vijay Nath yesterday.

He was on the island with other Government ministers to deliver food rations to villages affected by the cyclone.

“It will take more than three weeks to fully restore power on the island, five of our generators were destroyed including the transformers too,” Mr Nath said.

He added that 14 workers from their ministry have been deployed to carry out works.

“The damage it has on our infrastructure is severe and we are hoping to get everything fixed in four months.

“As you know the energy sector is one of the most important sectors, so we will try to restore services,” Mr Nath said.
