Round one of the Skipper Cup Premiership kicks off tomorrow and fans should expect exciting rugby.

The top eight teams in the country have been given more than a total package which means they have every reason to deliver for rugby’s sake every Saturday.

The $500K sponsorship from CJ Patel should lift the competition to a new level and inspire the players that they playing a sport that has a brighter future.

The sponsorship enabled the players to move away from an amateur to a professional setup now that 40 players, coaches, managers, sports &conditioning officials and medical providers are contracted.

This is a total shift from the norm and all involved must change their mindset to go with the flow and lift their game.

Fans are in for a Rugby Saturday with the women competition starting at 10am, Under-20s at 1pm and the main competition at 3pm in four venues around Viti Levu. Add to that we also have the Vodafone Vanua Championships games involving 16 teams in eight venues around the country.

Nadroga has been the provincial rugby capital of the country and they deserved it as they have been dominating the sport over the years.

And the seven teams in the Skipper Cup Premiership must rise to the occasion and end the domination.

It would be tough taking into account that Nadroga is one of the best well organised unions in the country.

But this could be the perfect year to evenly distribute the power base of rugby in the country.

Rugby will definitely thrive and grow if the game is evenly contested unlike in the past where mismatches are the order of the day.

It would be money worth spending for fans who turned up to cheer their teams and returned home satisfied despite the outcomes.

The onus starts with Nadi who plays Nadroga at Prince Charles Park at 3pm.

The Nadi Jets have never won the title since 2008.

Their ascendancy to the top begins on Saturday.

For so long, Nadroga has always been the team to beat as they are always superior.

That is the challenge for Nadi, Malolo, Rewa, Suva, Naitasiri, Namosi and Navosa teams. They need to deliver to expectations and make rugby more exciting.
