Elena Caucau of Jasper Williams School sets a new record in the senior grade javelin during the Coca-Cola Games yesterday with a throw of 43.49 metres.

The old record (42.60m) was set by Sisilia Lau of Adi Cakobau School in 2000 which was equalled by Caucau in 2017.

Caucau said she was confident of winning the gold medal.

“I was confident of breaking the 18- year record since day one,” she said.

The Year 13 student wants to end the year on a high note.

“Participating in the Cokes is every Fijian students dream and for me to set a record and win the gold is the best way to round up my years of participating in the most anticipated school event in Fiji.

“I would like to dedicate my win to my parents, coaches and teachers. Although my parents are not in Suva, I would like to thank them for their support,” she said.
